| The European Federation of Geologists is a non-governmental organization that was established in 1981 and includes today 21 national association members.
EFG is a professional organisation whose main aims are to contribute to a safer and more sustainable use of the natural environment, to protect and inform the public and to promote a more responsible exploitation of natural resources. The guidelines to achieve these aims are the promotion of excellence in the application of geology and the creation of public awareness of the importance of geoscience for the society. |

| Workshop - Managing Natural Hazards |

Hotel Sol Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, 10–11 May 2012 The Annual Meeting of the European Federation of Geologists (EFG) was held on 12-13 May 2012 in Tenerife, Spain. Connected to the Meeting a workshop was organized on "Managing Natural Hazards". The presentations given during the workshop will shortly be available in the section "Past Events". |

In 2012 EFG organizes jointly with other interested geosciences organizations a photo competition with the subject "Geology in the 21st century". Participants can submit up to three pictures in the following categories:

The third circular for this event can now be downloaded here and you can register directly via the website at http://www.34igc.org/. EFG will participate in the 34th IGC with a symposium on "Strengthening communication between fundamental and applied geosciences and between geoscientists and public" (Theme 1, Symposium 6). |
